Suzuki Cup 2018: Goal Keeper Van Lam Brings Pride to Vietnam

The Golden Dragons of Vietnam have taken the victory back to their home country after 10 years. Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam is one of the players to highlight and to thank for his astounding performance in the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup. The player 25-year-old Vietnamese-Russian player played a huge part in the final win against Malaysia.

Lam asserted himself and made crucial saves to maintain a clean sheet and ultimately win the title for his nation. The family of the 25-year-old was actually absent in the final leg and was back in Russia where the goalkeeper’s family resides.

The parents of Van Lam admittedly did not watch the group games, semifinals and the finals due to severe nervousness, and instead went to church to pray for their beloved soccer star. “Still now I haven’t had a chance to talk with them because they were too nervous so they went to Church and were just checking the result on their phones.”

In spite of this, Dang Van Lam’s family still shows their utmost support to the 25-year-old even during his dry spell between 2008 and 2018. The 10 year wait to win another Suzuki Cup final has been tough for the 25-year-old but is ultimately happy he is able to be part of the second win.

Van Lam says in a statement: “For us, after ten years we did it again. All Vietnamese people were waiting for ten years so we’re so happy. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to do this again ten years after the last time.

“The whole team did everything we could and to win here in front of our home supporters at My Dinh and to have a Gold Medal and the Cup we’re just so happy.” Dang Van Lam adds.
